Newly added courtesy of Dana Bell:  SUPER EXTREME CLOSEUPS of the fabled Atlantic Helldivers at NAS Atlantic City!  These are absolutely huge, so if you're on a dialup, click the thumbnail and go get a beer.  It'll be a while.  :)  However, it will be worth it, I think you'll agree!

Some things to note:

1) It's listed as an AS2BC-4E, and the APS-4 pod is not currently mounted.

2) The BuNo is also prefaced by an A*****...what is this A labeling?  Anyone know?

3) Aeromaster apparently did a sheet with this bird, but missed the XVF codes.

4) The forward numbers have an interesting cut to them...rough edges, too.  Clearly handpainted :)

5) These photos are ALL © Walter Wright, c/o Dana Bell.  No use other than personal (i.e. reprinting in a book) is allowed without Dana's express permission, per his request.  Feel free to download and use for building a white and grey Helldiver, though!  :)

6) In the first shot, look at the pilot's sliding canopy...that is DEFINITELY not the same color as the Gull Grey uppersurfaces.  Looks to be a stock Sea Blue replacement unit.  If doing this aircraft, be sure to print this out for the judges at contests who'll insist no such thing ever occurred...

More good stuff...here's a few photos of the XS2BC-1 circa early 1941.  Actually, the two color ones were taken sometime shortly before the aircraft's demise on 21 December 1941...these show the last mods to the airframe, including the larger vertical stabilizer and extended forward fuselage.  The first color shot is from Rudy Arnold, from the Feb. 1942 FLYING magazine, the second shot is a wire photo, and the third may also be a Rudy Arnold photo.
