Bf 109F-4/trop  (Stigler, 4./JG27)

Lynn Ritger

Back in 1999, while living in Daytona Beach, I found out that JG27 and JV44 ace Franz Stigler was going to appear at a print signing held by Ernie Boyette just up 95 in Jacksonville.  I thought it would be cool to have a 109 done in his markings for him to see and comment on... only problem was, I only had three days before the show.

Thankfully, the Hasegawa 109F kit is a treat to build, and I was able to get the kit done (along with quite a bit of detailing) to bring to the show.  Franz was quite pleased to see my efforts, and commented very favorably on the model... the only trouble I ran into was using Model Master paints (which are semi-glossy), so the aircraft was still tacky when I brought it.  :)

Decals were cobbled together from various sheets, and this represents the aircraft flown by Ofw. Stigler from Quotifayia, Egypt in August 1942.
