109 Sounds

For a warbird enthusiast, few things will make the hair on the back of their necks stand up like a vintage aircraft flying past in full song.  While we can't send a 109 through the screen to you, we can bring you the sights and sounds of 109s in their element...video clips of 109s in flight, taking off, or on the flight line and the sounds of that lovely DB engine as it roars past.

I hope you enjoy these features, and look forward to adding more in the near future!

People have remarked on the supercharger "whistle" of the Daimler Benz engine, and the two .wav files below will demonstrate quite well the difference in tone between the throaty DB601 of the Emil and the lovely DB605 of the Gustav.

If you've ever wondered what an MK108 30mm cannon sounded like when firing, here's a quick sound bite of three shots...

And for those of you with high-speed Internet connections (which is everyone except me, I believe), here are a couple of selections from the Aircraft Sounds disc of Bf 109G-2 W.Nr. 10639, "Black 6", digitally recorded and mastered for your listening enjoyment.  The disc is well worth tracking down and purchasing; it not only features audio of 10639 from startup through takeoff, flight, landing, and shutdown; it also features a conversation with Russ Snadden about the restoration of this magnificent aircraft, and a selection of Allied aircraft recordings for comparison (the Spitfire XIV with the Griffon engine is one of the most amazing things I've ever heard).
